Michelle Salcedo is an American Director based in Los Angeles focusing on creating universal stories through specificity.

My Background

I was born and raised in Miami, surrounded by a loud Cuban family, Santería, and telenovelas. My mother fled Cuba in the 1960’s. My father, of mixed indigenous descent, was born in Ecuador. As a Latina writer and director, the immigration stories of my parents are a source of inspiration. Being born in the United States gives me a unique perspective, a first generation American point of view. It’s this straddling of two cultures, speaking two languages equally fluently, that gives me the tools to represent a diverse world authentically while discovering universal themes that keep all audiences engaged.

Directing is collaborative. Inspiring department heads to execute your vision is achieved through meaningful connection. I’m an active listener as well as a clear communicator. My goal is that we all “dream the same dream” to bring the magic alive to the viewer.

“In my 42 year career as a cinematographer, I’ve been lucky to work with amazingly talented directors such as David Lynch, Quentin Tarantino, Joel Schumacher, Roland Emmerich and Wes Craven on films such as Blue Velvet, Jackie Brown, Phone Booth, The Patriot and Scream respectively. While they all approach their craft a bit differently, their dedication to story is key in their creative process. The same is true of Michelle Salcedo.”
